Yuri Gagarin, First Man in Space
A vintage poster of Yuri Gagarin by Rykoff collection
Two days ago, on the 12th of April, marked the 50th anniversary of mankind's first 'voyage' into outer space. Yuri Gagarin, a poor man with big dreams and Sergei Pavlovich Korolev, a genius scientist, traveled to a place where no man had previously been, basically taking a step that they knew would most likely lead to their deaths. But amazingly, they survived.

The reason I am talking about this is because, firstly the vintage poster above brought out the dreamer in me and secondly (most importantly), most of us don't know much about these two. You see, people talk a lot about the first man on the moon, and while that is definitely no small feat, Gagarin and Korolev paved the path for Niel Armstrong's historic first steps.

Anyway, if you have time, do read this article written by Jesus Diaz from Gizmodo. It gives a small view into the window of Gagarin's trip to the final 'frontier,' and I have to say, it kinda pulled at my heartstrings...
