A Trip to the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra!

It’s been almost three years since I last listened to classical music and I think four years since I last made a trip to the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. I'm quite embarrassed by that actually as I grew up with a mother who played Tchaikovsky on the radio in the morning to Wagner in the evening. So I decided it was time to get back into it, and what better way than Beethoven!

Getting the tickets to see the MPO perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 and Symphony No. 7 was smooth sailing. I picked up the tickets at the counter without any issue and luckily not much of a queue. But I advise booking online as these tickets can run out pretty fast.

Entering the amazing hall is a trip on its own. I almost forgot how stunning and beautifully designed it was. I was also quite keenly aware at how well the sound carried when I walked in with my shoes. Maybe next time I won't wear wooden clogs.

But nothing could compare to the sound that spread throughout the room which was filled to the brim when the Orchestra started. It was breathtaking. Literally. The fourth symphony perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the space with its liveliness and lightness and the seventh symphony showcased the drama and passion that I've come to love from Beethoven.

By the way, I have to give it to the men and women who work tirelessly throughout the week to bring us such cultured and beautiful music at the MPO. During the performance, I would catch myself nodding my head to the music and there were many others doing the same. This is what classical music is about, where one falls into it and get swept away in its wonder, but it takes a very talented group of musicians to bring us there and I can safely say Claus Peter Flor, the conductor and his orchestra did just that.

So that was my adventure on the weekend and it most definitely won't be my last. I plan on making a trip to the MPO a monthly thing, after all, don't they say music is food for the soul? If you have the chance, do check out what they have in store this season. I can guarantee it will be time and money well spent.

Dancing with LG

It was a fiesta to remember at the LG’s LIVE LIFE LARGE bloggers event recently where I had the most immersive experience with their amazing 84”Ultra HD 3D TV. But that was just the tip of the iceberg, as we were also introduced to numerous visually stunning consumer electronics and participated in hilarious games that let’s just say, got my booty shaking just a little.

To start the morning of, we headed into the LG tent nestled right at The Piazza at The Curve, to finally see for ourselves the 84” TV. In a dark cold room stood this huge beauty with stunning visuals. The image was so crisp and clear that it took my breath away. If you could put this TV beside a window and screen the same image as the view outside, you probably will have some difficulty in telling which one is real. Am not kidding. Of course finding a window that size might be a tad bit tricky. Think of four 42” TVs and you get the idea.

We were also presented with cool 3D glasses that came in fun bright colours. Holding them up to the screen, I could see images bounce out of the TV as if I was part of the story. I loved it and I could tell that everyone else around me did too. As for the sound, the TV comes with 3 way 10 speakers that produce absolute liveliness and depth to the story on the screen. It is like your own cinema.

But that wasn't all we got to see, they also introduced us to a few other more space friendly televisions and one in particular stood out. The LG 60” 3D Smart TV. It is basically an incredibly user friendly and intelligent piece of electronic. For people like me who can't comprehend a remote control, this baby comes with a magic remote with universal control that is a one stop solution for maximum convenience.

I actually really liked it’s Time Machine II which allows you to record shows right on the TV’s built-in memory card and this can be done even when you are watching another channel. I can also schedule the recordings so if I'm out of the house, I can make sure my show will be recorded and ready for my late night popcorn session!

Now the perfect accompaniment for the 60” television is the 9.1CH Cinema Sound Home Theater System. It is an advanced sound system of 9 sleek speakers of different directions and one woofer that delivers diverse sounds from each direction. You will feel literally blown away by the experience of hearing the precise and genuine sounds.

But alas, the feast for my eyes and ears of these electronics were put to a pause so we could play some fun games. Now I'm not one for competing, but I actually got into the fun of it and ended up having a ball. There were three games that they put us up to. In a group of 4 people, 10 groups all around, we were given the task to answer some tricky questions about the 84” TV for the first game. Unfortunately for our team, this was not our strong point.

The second game was watching a short clip on the 84” TV and guessing what movie it came from, I think out of ten, we got 8 right. But the last game was the best. We were given the task of dancing to… Gangnam Style! Now I'm no dancer, but my group killed it! Sadly we did not win but I think at that point, it didn't matter anymore as we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Kids, if you see your mom dancing to this weird Korean song one day, just know that I had fun!

So all in all, it was quite a successful day. The LG Fiesta got me to experience visuals and sounds that were beyond amazing and I also made a few new friends. It’s quite rare for me to step out of my comfort zone but I'm glad I did, because LG got it right, we've all got to LIVE LIFE LARGE once in awhile and you should try it too!

Weekend Happenings with LG!

When I think of father’s day, I have this idea of a handsome man sitting on the sofa surrounded by his children, eating his favorite food while watching his favorite show on an awesome flat screen TV.  Let’s face it, even dads are still the same dudes before we married them, and mine happens to be geek mad, so the image has to have something gadgety in it!

Well as you know, Father’s day so happens to be just around the corner, and I aim to make this dream come true. Yes, we have a flat screen TV that is pretty old and in my husband’s words, ‘tiny and not geek worthy.’ It’s pretty much a subtle hint for a rather large gift, deserving nonetheless.

And luck would have it that I am invited to LIVE LIFE LARGE, LG’s blogger event (8th June at The Curve, The Piazza, at 10am) where I might just win an 84" inch TV! It certainly has come at the perfect time. All I have to do is come up with the best blog post to win the world’s first 84” inch Ultra HD 3D TV! No pressure right? Obviously I’m keeping this a secret from Lars, can you imagine if he knew? He’d be reading and correcting everything I type!
But really, have you guys heard of this beauty? I’m actually quite looking forward to checking it out in person. I can imagine how crisp and clear the image must be and not to mention the colours popping out of the screen. In tech terms, LG’s Ultra HD 3D TV presents picture quality with 8 million pixels per frame.

Which means it’s four times the resolution of existing Full HD TV panels. I can’t wait to see that.
Also, it’s got a lot of external sources such as hard drives, mobile devices and user-generated content websites rendered in perfect detail. So I’m thinking this sounds like the perfect gift right? Fingers and toes crossed that I win!

Anyway, the event will also have fun activities, games and prizes by LG so if I can’t get him the dream TV, I think I might just be able to bring him back something else.

Of course now you are thinking well, I’m not a blogger, how can I check out the event? Well of course you can! Because LG is having a roadshow for the public at The Curve (The Piazza) from the 7th till the 9th of June 2013, 10am to 10pm. I bet you will be able to find something there. If you’re not in the market for electronics, you must still come on down to get your mind blown away by LG’s Ultra HD 3D TV! I know I will!
